Prior to nEye and Google, Ashish spent twenty years founding and building startups -  Photuris and Nistica - in the optical networking space. He has demonstrated expertise in global deal-making and fund-raising, having raised over $100M in Series A - C rounds from VCs and strategic Corporate Venture funds, with multiple successful exits.

Having started his career at Bell Labs, Dr. Vengsarkar holds 35 patents, and has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal papers. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, and a B. Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

In his spare time, he enjoys solving and constructing crosswords, dabbling in Indian music, and enjoying a good glass of wine.

Tae Joon Seok

CTO

Co-Founder

Dr. Tae Joon Seok leads the development of next-generation photonics technologies. He is a recognized expert in integrated photonics, silicon photonics, and optoelectronics, fields that are critical to the company's core mission.

Prior to co-founding nEye, Dr. Seok built a distinguished career in research and academia, serving as a Professor at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) and as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. His groundbreaking work has led to over 40 publications in leading technical journals.

Dr. Seok's contributions to innovation in optics have been recognized with prestigious awards, including Tingye Li Innovation Prize from Optica (former Optical Society of America) and a Bronze Medal from the Collegiate Inventors Competition, sponsored by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley and a B.S. from Seoul National University.

Outside of work, Tae Joon and his family like hiking in National Parks and going to classical music concerts.  On occasion he and his wife play piano (4-hands piano pieces) together.

Jefferson Wagener

VP Engineering

As nEYE.ai's Vice President of Engineering, Jefferson Wagener brings a wealth of leadership and innovation forged over a distinguished career in optics. With a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Stanford University, he began his journey at Bell Labs where the foundations of his expertise were laid.

Jefferson's career is marked by a deep commitment to building and deploying cutting-edge optical technologies. He was a co-founder of Nistica, where he was responsible for inventing multiple advanced optical products and leading the engineering teams that achieved high-volume deployment of wavelength selective switches in both terrestrial and subsea networks. His leadership was instrumental in the company’s success, culminating in a successful acquisition by Molex.

This hands-on journey has shaped Jefferson's collaborative and results-oriented leadership style. At nEYE.ai, he is dedicated to leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary team focused on creating groundbreaking products.

The same focus and persistence is evident in his personal pursuits as a hot-air balloon pilot and a long-distance bikepacker.

Stuart Merkadeau

VP Business & Legal

Stuart is the Vice President of Business & Legal, with comprehensive responsibility for the company's General & Administrative (G&A) functions, including HR, Finance, Legal, and Facilities.

A veteran of the semiconductor industry, Stuart transitioned from a career as a partner at an international law firm in 2000. Since then, he has been a key leader in helping to build and guide two successful startups through multiple fundraising rounds and onto a Nasdaq IPO.

Stuart is a registered patent attorney and a licensed lawyer in California. He holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from the UCLA School of Law and a Bachelor of Science (BS) from Northwestern University.

Outside of nEye, Stuart can be found spending time with family, traveling, and moving through water via kayak, paddleboard and boat.
